Reply:Heidi is German. It's a shortened form of Adelheid, which means noble heath. These days you'll find both Adel and Heidi used as names in their own right.
Reply:YAR! ZE IS GERMAN!
Reply:I thought Swiss....
Reply:I know Heidi Klum is from germany...

But orginally name come from Switzerland....
Reply:It's definitely Germanic, and the pronunciation of the 'ei' as "aye" does point to German rather than Dutch or Scandinavian sources.
Reply:Well Swissgerman and German are basically the same languages (just the way you speak it and some words differ, comparable to american english and english, just that the swiss accent is hard to understand for some germans), so yes, it is a german or if you want you could also say its a swiss name. But as I said, thats basically the same. And I dont know any specifically swiss names, so I would guess the names in Switzerland and in Germany are the same.
Reply:Yes, it is used in all German speaking countries. But the famous Heidi, in Johanna Spyri's book, was really called Adelheid, a name she detested, and Heidi was the shortened form.
Reply:Yes, Heidi is a Germanic origin name it means PRINCESS.
