Schumacher will be remembered for the tackle on a French attacking player in the semi-final of the 1982 World Cup. Schumacher threw himself into the path of the French defender, leaving him unconscious and shattering several of his teeth. Amazingly, the referee did not send Schumacher off, or even award a free kick against him.
