Is The Last Name Orevaugh German?

My grandpa's real last name is Orevaugh, and he wants to find out if

his last name is German. My grandma and I think that the last name is indeed German, but we are not exactly sure. And everywhere we look in Google, it says that the last name Orevaugh is not a real last name. But, my granpa's last name is indeed that. Please, help me and my grandpa find out if his last name is German!

Is The Last Name Orevaugh German?
Orevaugh is absolutely not a German name. I know this because I have no clue how to pronounce it.
Reply:The name is not German as it stands. You should first try to find out whether the name was changed when your ancestors arrived in the country. Many German names were changed to sound more English or because the immigration clerk had no clue how to spell the name properly.
Reply:I don't think so.... it doesn't look German at all..... at least from what I've learned and such. It is european though, just not German
Reply:I highly doubt that your grandfather's last name is German. It doesn't have any kind of indication that would point to the German language.

However Ore (脰re!?) is/used to be a Scandinavian coin, used in countries like Norway, Denmark and Sweden. Maybe you should look for your roots there!?
Reply:It is a real last name, probably just not very common. I don't think it is German but I could be wrong. A lot of names Vaugh/Baugh are English-Irish-Scottish. I know Orebaugh was documented in Scotland in 1871. Probably related to your surname. I looked up the separate names of "Vaugh" and "Ore" and my results said both were Scottish.
