Is the name Lee a name from German culture backround?

B/c my great great grandfather(who was a pure German) was named Lee and many people tell me Lee is not German if anything Asian.

Is the name Lee a name from German culture backround?
Check babynames.com they say english.
Reply:no its hebrew name
Reply:There is a girl's name Lea in Germany which is a form of the Biblical name Leah. Otherwise the name Lee comes from the Old English word leah meaning clearing or meadow or, in a Scottish version, with the meaning of Descendant of Laoidheach.
Reply:Anglo-Saxon; usually English, Irish, Scotch, Welsh, etc. It can be German, but not too commonly. The asian would be spelled Li.
Reply:There are ethnic Europeans who would have the last name Lee, but in most cases, most people named Lee would be either Korean or Chinese.
