I live in California what are the steps I need to do? Where do I need to go? And how much will it cost me?
I just received a German Shepherd as a gift and want to register it under my name.?
If you mean American Kennel Club registration, you have to have the litter registration for the dog from the breeder. The cost is usually around $50. to register a dog with AKC.
If you mean licensing, check with your local animal control, animal shelter or city hall....The cost will be different city to city....
Reply:Register like how? You can look into getting him/her microchipped so s/he will be returned to you in case s/he gets lost. As for the official breeder paperwork, if there is any, the breeder will take care of that. You also need to look into dog licensing laws for your area.
No offense, but when I first read this question it sounded like you were talking about a car.
Reply:Find out where the pup came from, and the breeder should have gave who ever it was that got the dog papers to fill out. If the dog's parent aren't registered you can't register the pup. Mom and dad has to be registered with the AKC or CKC. Also if you get the papers it really shouldn't cost that much I'd say no more than $30.00. If it was me find the breeder and go from there good luck
Reply:You should have gotten papers w/the pup. You just fill them out and send them in...the add: is on the papers...You do not have to send them in at all....if you don't want to. No difference. who cares whose name the dog is in? NOrmally it can cost between $20-10. Only reason to register is for breeding.
Reply:The breeder needs to either process the initial registration under your name or send a change of ownership form to the registering body the pup is with.
Reply:ANY VET
